OBJECTIVES:

After reading this online course module, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the goals and difficulties specific to pediatric patients following kidney transplantation, including the effects of different immunosuppressive agents.
  • Understand the impact of kidney transplantation on linear growth in pediatric patients, and assess treatment decisions for likely impact on patients' final adult height.
  • Assess particular risks that infections and malignancies pose for pediatric transplant recipients.
  • Address the quality-of-life and psychosocial issues that affect patient adherence to therapy.
