OBJECTIVES:

After viewing this slide library, dermatologists and other physicians should be able to:

  • Differentiate superficial fungal infections from other cutaneous infections.
  • Outline the clinical presentation, epidemiology, risk factors of, and organisms responsible for superficial fungal infections, such as intertrigo and the tineas.
  • Identify factors relevant to choice of antifungal agent in treatment of specific infections, such a range of efficacy, ease of use, cost, anti-inflammatory/antipruritic properties and the role of vehicle in efficacy.
  • Describe differences between the use of topical and systemic therapies for fungal infections.
